Today’s Afternoon blast of Winter cold and Snow
It’s winter again. Winter cold and winter weather are on their way this afternoon thanks to a clipper system that drops into the region today.
It is possible that snow will fall in the mountains shortly thereafter as rain transitions to snow during the afternoon.
Amounts of Snow
As temperatures cool, a light accumulation of snow is possible in the Tri-Cities over the night with a dusting of around 11.2 inches but only in a few places.
Furthermore, a strong NW wind will set up a long-lasting uphill flow, making significant snow in the mountains possible.

There is generally one to three inches of accumulation in mountain counties, with two to four inches on higher elevations, and more than four inches in those over 5000 feet.
Falling Temperatures
As cold air rushes into the region, temperatures will drop into the 30s with wind chills in the 20s this afternoon and evening.
Wind chills in the teens are expected overnight as temperatures dip into the 20s.
