Ontario returns to Snow, cold after a Short spell of mild, Rainy Weather

Southern Ontario started off the week on a mild note, but wintry weather is on its way by Wednesday––along with colder temperatures for the remainder of the week.

Winter in southern Ontario is taking a break right now, but it won’t last long. Midweek and beyond will bring more wintry weather to the region.

Throughout southern and eastern Ontario, snowfall chances and temperatures in the negative digits will return midweek, continuing through the weekend.

If you’re still doing outdoor holiday decorating or shopping, Tuesday will be the day to do it before snow and chilly temperatures arrive. Come Wednesday, expect slower commutes.

Weather will be messy, snowy in the Great Lakes on Wednesday. Wet flurries are likely Wednesday morning at the southern end of the province with marginal temperatures.

Precipitation moves into the GTA by Wednesday afternoon. Traffic may be slower during this time because of slippery roads.

Pearson International Airport and northern parts of the GTA will receive snow due to Lake Ontario’s warming effect.

It snows by Wednesday evening in Ottawa, with 2-5 cm possible by Thursday morning. Periods of rain-snow mixing may lead to varying totals.

Great Lakes region can expect widespread snow and blustery conditions Friday and Thursday.

Winds from the northwest will blow and drift snow as lake-effect snow develops as the system departs the region.

Winter weather is coming this weekend as Arctic air is forced eastward. Temperatures will reach -20 C Friday night in cottage country, and -20 C will prevail Saturday night in areas away from lakes and cities.

Early next week, temperatures will rise after Sunday’s frigid weather.
