Eastern Ontario faces a white Christmas and slick roads due to a Winter Storm

Gatineau and Ottawa are expected to receive up to 20 cm of snow. Throughout the day and into the night, Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for the National Capital Region.

Snowfall accumulations of up to 20 centimeters are expected in Ottawa and surrounding areas, and low visibility is expected in areas of heavy snow and icy roads.

Winter Storm Snow is expected to advance into eastern Ontario on Monday afternoon, becoming heavy at times in the evening at a rate of two to three centimetres per hour.

Despite the uncertainty as to where the snowfall will be the heaviest, most parts of the region can expect up to 15 centimetres of snow, with locally up to 20 centimetres.

Despite the flurries, Environment Canada said Tuesday’s morning could bring freezing drizzle.

A total of 15-20 centimetres of snow is expected in Ottawa and Gatineau.

Traffic conditions are likely to be hazardous for motorists, according to the agency. Drive accordingly, it said.

CBC’s meteorologist Michelle Fleury said visibility would be obstructed. However, there won’t be much wind, so we won’t expect it to blow snow.”

Weather advisories cover most of southwestern Quebec and eastern Ontario, including Ottawa.

Gatineau and Kingston Parking Bans

Ottawa has not declared a parking ban during the winter, but it is asking people to avoid parking on the street.

Monday night will see a parking ban in Kingston. It will be illegal to park on city streets between 1 a.m. 7:00 a.m.

Moreover, the City of Gatineau has announced a parking ban between 12 am to 6 am.

Fathi advised people to stay home if they don’t need to go out, and to drive carefully if they must. Snowplows working on the highway should also not be passed by, said Fathi.

Despite the fact nobody likes getting stuck behind them, Fathi said they do their job well.
