Cold wave to continue Through Weekend in Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal

Temperatures plunged below 0°C in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh on Monday night, making it the coldest night this winter.

Among Himachal Pradesh’s coldest spots is Tabo in Lahaul and Spiti district, where the mercury dropped to -10.6°C. Kagil in Ladakh experienced even colder temperatures of -12.5°C.

Cold conditions are being driven by a western disturbance along Longitude 68°E and Latitude 25°N.

Hemachal Pradesh will be hit by severe cold from December 17-20 due to this weather system.

Similarly, parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad, and Jammu and Kashmir will experience extreme cold.

Hemachal Pradesh’s MeT office has issued an “orange” weather warning for severe cold in Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur districts, which will see intense cold for the next five days.

Kangra district will remain cold until Friday, while dry weather will prevail across the state.

Farmers are advised to safeguard crops and livestock from freezing temperatures thanks to the severe cold wave.

Locals are also urged to take extra precaution to avoid accidents due to dense fog and cold waves.

In Shimla, the Queen of Hills, the temperature peaked at 21°C during the day, the second highest for December since 21.3°C in 2017.

Overall temperatures will remain low for the next few days, which will tighten the cold grip on the region.
