Travel will be Challenging this Weekend as Heavy Snow is Expected in the Prairies
Southern and eastern Prairies can expect a snowy weekend as a moisture-packed clipper approaches.
Dauphin and Winnipeg will also be affected by heavy snow from Saskatoon to Thunder Bay. The southern border of the United States could be affected by mixed precipitation.
Beginning Saturday night and lasting into Monday, the Yellow head and Trans-Canada Highways may be slow to travel.
Ensure that you are informed about all of the local weather warnings, and have a plan in place if these conditions worsen.

Rain, snow, and freezing rain will be expected to fall as this system moves east through the Prairies. When this event occurs, heavy snowfall rates will be the primary threat.
In the region, driving will be difficult due to extensive blowing and drifting snow caused by strong winds of 50-70 km/h. Don’t forget to check road conditions before you head out this weekend.
On Saturday, our Alberta clipper will be sown during the day by a disturbance crossing over the Rockies.
With the passage of this system, Edmonton should receive less than 5 cm of snow. By Sunday morning, snowfall rates will increase as the clipper grows organized, picking up moisture and moving east into Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
As the system moves east, Saskatoon should experience snow from Saturday night through Sunday morning.
Winnipeg will experience snowfall starting on Sunday morning, increasing in intensity throughout the day, and dissipating by evening.
Northern Ontario will receive the heaviest snowfall, with Dryden and Thunder Bay experiencing snow from Sunday afternoon until Monday afternoon.
By the storm’s end, we’ll see some impressive snowfall totals. Saskatoon to Dauphin and Winnipeg will see 15-20 cm of accumulation. Around the Interlake region, localized amounts of up to 25 cm are possible.
Several areas of northern Ontario are expected to see 20-40 cm of snow with this clipper, including Dryden and Thunder Bay.
