A snowy system that will affect the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, Niagara, and Ottawa on Thursday morning may bring whiteout conditions.
Travel during this time will be slow and slippery, so be sure to leave plenty of time to reach your destination.
If possible, commuters in the area near Georgian Bay, from Cobourg to Kingston, and along Highway 21 should avoid travel.
Travel plans should be adjusted according to the hazardous winter driving conditions. Travel advisories have been issued for the winter weather because of blowing snow and snow squall warnings.

Snowfall on Thursday Could lead to Whiteout Conditions
Temperature differences between the Great Lakes and land will increase the amount of snow that falls as it moves inland off of them on Thursday.
Embedded snow squalls and heavy bursts of snow will result from this, making things messy and dangerous.
Early Thursday morning, snow will start falling across southern and eastern Ontario, just in time for morning commutes to be impacted.
Snowfall accumulations and whiteout conditions will affect commuters along Highway 401 east of Toronto up to Kingston as well as the southern Niagara region.
A snowfall rate of 2-5 cm/h in these areas coupled with wind gusts of 50-70 km/h will rapidly deteriorate road conditions and impact commuters on Wednesday and Thursday.
Snowfalls in these areas cause traffic jams and accidents, so if you can, consider working from home and avoiding travel during this time.
GTA shorelines will only see a few cm of accumulation due to melting, while inland there will be 5-10 cm. Throughout the day, snowfall falls in multiple bursts, changing conditions rapidly.

Along lakeshores, temperatures could easily surpass freezing, while farther inshore temperatures will remain below.
Lake Michigan, Huron, and Georgian Bay will all produce snow, so cottage country will also be affected. Extreme amounts may exceed 50 cm in some places.
North of the 100+ cm area, those at risk are north of those areas. East of Lake Ontario may receive 10-25 cm. Power outages could be more likely if temperatures hover around freezing.
Conditions will remain cold and blustery through the morning commute on Thursday.
Niagara and the snow belts will continue to experience bursts of heavy snow and snow squalls after the system exits.
Throughout Thursday afternoon and evening, snow will fall in the Ottawa region.
