Syracuse is under a winter storm watch beginning late Wednesday night
Throughout Wednesday afternoon through Thursday night, central New York will be in the grips of a Winter Storm Watch.
Majority of Wednesday is Quite
Winter Storm Watches begin Wednesday afternoon, but the greatest impacts won’t occur until Wednesday night and Thursday.
Snow showers are expected around Syracuse during the middle of the day Wednesday, with an accumulation of one to three inches over the southern Tug Hill.
During the early morning hours of Thursday, a strong cold front sweeps through Central New York, dumping a burst of snow across the region.
Immediately after this front, lake-effect snow builds in the counties east of Lake Ontario, and by evening, it approaches Syracuse.
Syracuse will experience lake-effect snow Thursday night, but it will begin to diminish by Friday morning.

Do you Think There will be Much Snow?
Throughout much of the watch area (including Syracuse), snowfall will be between 4 and 8 inches, but a foot or more is possible closer to Tug Hill.
There was not as much impact as in the past lake effect event, but it was still significant
Winds Can have a Significant Impact
Several mph gusts are possible Thursday from the west and northwest, leading to blowing snow and whiteout conditions.
In case of the possibility of severe winter weather but not yet confirmation, a Winter Storm Watch is issued.
