Strong Winds are Forecast for Thursday, Causing blowing Snow to Fall

During the night of Tuesday into Thursday, low visibility and blowing Forecast snow may affect the Red River Valley and southeastern Manitoba, and Environment Canada has issued a Blowing Snow Advisory.

Among the locations are Morden, Winkler, Carman, Altona, Emerson, Morris, Winnipeg, Steinbach, and Vita.

During blowing snow advisories, the wind will create poor visibility for at least 3 hours resulting in blowing snow.

“Open areas in Red River Valley should see reduced visibility as gusts of 60 to 70 km/h develop overnight,” the advisory stated.

In Thursday daytime winds, visibility will become poor in blowing snow, passing zero at times, with winds gusting to 80 km/h.

It will be safer to travel over the northern Red River Valley, including Winnipeg, by late Thursday afternoon due to diminished winds and improved visibility.

Thursday evening should see improvements over the south. The weather will be sunny and cloudy on Thursday, with temperatures staying around -14.

The visibility will be reduced due to a significant and sudden reduction to zero, making travel hazardous.
