Southern Ontario gets Widespread Snowfall on Saturday due to Clipper

Southern Ontario will see one final batch of snowfall on Saturday before a much-needed warmup arrives to end the week.

Through Saturday, the approaching clipper will abruptly end those pesky snow squalls, but it will bring snow to most of the region.

Motorists are reminded to check 511 Ontario for road closures and conditions before traveling.

You should stay informed of all local weather warnings, too, and make sure you have a plan in place if conditions worsen.

Southern Ontario was swept with snow squalls throughout the day Friday due to the coldest air of the season. First time since March that Toronto hasn’t risen above freezing.

The persistent snow squalls away from the lakes will finally subside on Saturday thanks to shifting winds.

During Saturday’s day, another clipper system will move through northern Ontario and brush southern provinces.

In northeastern Ontario, the snow will begin Saturday morning and end by nightfall.

There will be light snow reaching the Greater Toronto Area by early afternoon, ending in the western GTA by evening, and fading late into the night in the eastern GTA.

Snow is expected to arrive in the Ottawa area by Saturday evening and continue overnight until Sunday morning.

Snowfall totals won’t be as heavy as we’ve seen in recent weeks, but even a few centimeters of snow can make roads slick and slow traffic.

Eastern Ontario is expected to receive the most snowfall, with 10-15 cm expected by the end of the storm.

It’s expected that northern Lake Huron, southern Georgian Bay, and the Eastern GTA will receive 5-10 cm of snow, while the rest of Ontario will receive less than 5 cm.

Until next week, southern Ontario will enjoy milder temperatures thanks to the clipper system bringing warmer air north.

Sunday is expected to be a hot day with temperatures well above freezing. The region north and northeast of Toronto could see some light freezing rain and mixed precipitation on Monday.

It is predicted that another system will form over the Midwest on Tuesday night and track into southern Ontario with widespread rain. Cold fronts are bringing snow to some areas west of the storm track as well.

An Arctic air mass is expected to quickly sweep across the region on Wednesday, with temperatures a few degrees colder than normal. The lake-effect snow should return by Wednesday night.

A warmer pattern will dominate into mid-December, bringing much milder weather for the weekend. Late December and early January are likely to see a colder pattern kick in.
