Skiers Flock to Willamette Pass Early, Boosting The Economy of the Region

Willamette Pass opened for the first time since 2003 this weekend, welcoming hundreds of skiers and snowboarders.

Winter weather in Willamette Pass has been early, and the ski resort is already opening with a solid snow base.

“It’s kind of awesome the feeling you get after you just ski down a mountain,” a skier said. It’s a lot of fun to learn new skills and try new tricks.”

The Cascade Mountains are also a popular ski and snowboard destination.

Ski resorts live and die by the weather. Our resort does not generate revenue when we are not operating, but it has a much greater impact on the surrounding communities, says Mindy Ingbretson-Wolowicz.

Tourist revenue is heavily dependent on tourism in nearby destinations like Oak Ridge and Crescent Lake during the winter.

The operations staff are essential to skiing, says Ingbretson-Wolowicz. Ingbretson-Wolowicz says. We did an amazing job working together.

That looks like snowmaking, compacting the snow with the groomers before grooming it. Maintenance of our lifts, which takes up all of our summer, and getting all of our equipment in place.”

Skiing is more than just a sport to many – it’s a passion.

Having been teaching on the slopes for over 20 years, one instructor can attest to their transformative power.

Having a good time, relaxing, and smiling will allow them to progress much more quickly.

The Slope Sports School strives to alleviate any anxiety students may feel as much as possible,” says Garrick Mishaga.

“Everyone is unique in their way. Learning styles vary from person to person. “Some have a preference for doing, some for watching, and some need to be told what to do.”

Snow-making capabilities and sustainability initiatives have been improved as a result of recent infrastructure improvements at the resort.

Besides the thrill of carving through snow, some consider it a form of mindfulness.

Being able to choose your path down the hill is liberating for me,” says Ingbretson-Wolowicz. In some ways, it’s like active meditation, since you’re very physical, but in a happy place.

Fast travel, beautiful scenery, and outdoor fun await you. Getting off of that to people today is so exciting to me.”
