Ski area in Colorado cuts lift ticket prices by 45 percent

Ski Cooper, Colorado is zigging while everyone else zags in the age of mega-passes, online reservations, and paid parking.

Winter ”24/’25 lift tickets will be just $45/day at Ski Cooper, not to be confused with Copper Mountain nearby.

Tickets will be sold online and at the ticket window at the same price. This practice used to be commonplace at ski resorts across the country, but has all but disappeared due to resorts anticipating how many skiers will show up each day.

Ski Cooper is an independent ski area not bound by corporate overlords’ whims. Ski areas seem to be rolling back the clock to offer more traditional skiing experiences.

Weekend and holiday lift ticket prices increase, but they are still well below the average rate at Colorado’s more popular ski resorts. Below you will find a breakdown of the prices.

Ski Cooper CEO Dan Torsell spoke to Vail Daily about why the mountain slashed prices and eliminated online discounts. “It’s time to take the stress out of skiing,” he said. “Instead of following the leader in the season pass/day pass game, we’re simplifying day pass purchasing and promoting affordability.”

Torsell’s explanation is one of the most refreshing things I’ve heard from a ski resort/area CEO in a long time. Instead of maximizing profits, Torsell and Ski Cooper are promoting affordability and “simplifying” the process. While other ski resort CEOs have made similar claims, Torsell stands out by offering not just one of the cheapest day tickets in Colorado, but in the nation as well.

Several years ago, I paid over $100 for ski lessons in Wisconsin during a mid-week day. Although I cringe at the thought I could have paid half that to ski a mountain of Ski Cooper’s quality, I find solace in knowing many Denverites and Front Rangers won’t be duped as I was.

Keeping the vibe alive means supporting mom-and-pop ski areas. This season, Ski Cooper offers a $45 lift ticket for you to consider.

Ski Cooper is set to open for the Winter ’24/’25 season on December 11, 2024.
