In western and central regions, 40 millimeters of rainfall can be expected after freezing rain

Schools in northern New Brunswick closed Wednesday morning due to freezing rain and rough road conditions, and poor weather is forecast for the rest of the day throughout the province. 

There was a closure of schools in Zone 1 – Edmundston under the Anglophone West district.

Throughout the Francophone Northwest district, all schools were closed on Wednesday.

Schools in the Anglophone North district opened two hours later, with buses running two hours later for pick-ups as well. 

Most of the province was under Environment Canada’s warnings.

Forecasters issued rainfall and freezing rain warnings for Edmundston, Fredericton, Grand Falls, St. Stephen, and Woodstock, as well as the western half of Restigouche County.

It was predicted that there would be a period of freezing rain for four to six hours on Wednesday morning before turning to rain.

An intense low pressure system tracking over New Brunswick from Wednesday night into Thursday morning could bring 25-40 millimeters of rain. 

Several other regions were also under a freezing rain warning, including Grand Lake, Mount Carleton, Oromocto, Stanley, and Sussex.

The weather in Saint John and Grand Manan was forecast to be wet and windy.

In accordance with Environment Canada, there is a wind advisories for the Acadian Peninsula and the Fundy Coast for the nights of Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Several other regions across the province received special weather statements calling for heavy rain and strong winds.
