Saskatchewan is Going to Receive yet Another large Amount of Snow

Winter is coming again to Saskatchewan this weekend, and road crews and residents are getting ready.

Saskatchewan’s south and central regions were issued snowfall warnings on Friday.

It’s predicted that a low-pressure system in Montana will spread heavy snow across southern Saskatchewan on Saturday.

Early Saturday, snow is expected near the Alberta border, and late Saturday afternoon, reaching Manitoba.

Meteorologist Philippe-Alain Bergeron from Environment Canada says people will also have to contend with moderate to strong winds and falling temperatures.

During the next couple of days, temperatures will be five to ten degrees below normal due to Arctic air.

A temperature of around –15 C would be very common.

In the event of a severe storm, Saskatoon officials said they might activate an emergency plan to relieve local streets of snow.

For the plan to be activated, Saskatoon must receive 25 centimeters of snowfall, have impassible streets, and have light vehicles unable to travel.

A large number of the 300 provincial government snowplows will be deployed on the highways if this weekend’s snow arrives.

Snowplows create mini-blizzards when clearing highways, so motorists should slow down and stay back.

Deputy Assistant Minister of Operations Tom Lees said, “Weather patterns can change rapidly, which means our roads have to adapt to these changes.”

This winter, I would recommend checking the highway hotline before you get on the road.”
