Forecasts predict up to 20 inches of snow for millions
The East Coast has received its first snowfall of the year, while the Forecasts predict West Coast is bracing for another storm after years of bomb cyclones. Overnight, Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey were dumped with snow.
In Northwest Pocahontas, Southeast Randolph, and Southeast Webster counties, up to 20 inches of snow are forecast by Sunday. National Weather Service (NWS) warns of extremely hazardous travel.

California Experiences Record Rainfall and Snow
CBS Sacramento’s chief meteorologist Nic Merianos says California’s “atmospheric river” has intensified as record rainfall hits.
A narrow region of water vapor moves through the atmosphere. Water vapor from these storms is typically released as rain or snow when they make landfall.
According to Merianos, “our forecast models predicted today’s intensity of the atmospheric river well.”
Flash flood warnings continue for San Francisco and Sacramento, while chain controls are up over I-80.
Winter Storms Cause 720 flights to be Canceled and 4,324 Delays
Transport across the U.S. continues to be affected by winter storms. High winds, heavy rain, and snowstorms hampered travel this weekend as travelers tried to get home ahead of the holidays.
Approximately 714 flights were canceled and 4,324 delayed today, according to Flight Aware.
How Does a Bomb Cyclone Work?
During bombogenesis, an atmospheric pressure drop of 24 millibars (mb) in 24 hours is usually experienced by storm systems that undergo bombogenesis.
Violent weather results from this steep pressure drop.
Combining “Bomb” and “Cyclogenesis,” which describes the formation of cyclones in the northern hemisphere as low-pressure systems rotating counterclockwise.
High winds, heavy precipitation, and severe disruptions can accompany bomb cyclones, although many form over the ocean.
Storms can fall under this category whether they are tropical or non-tropical, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Heather Zehr.

Washington Power System Hit Hard by Winter Storm
The Pacific Northwest was stricken by a winter storm comparable to a hurricane, according to Puget Sound Energy.
PSE customers remain without power this morning. There was “unprecedented damage” to the utility’s power lines during the storm.
Power cannot be restored to many neighborhoods without fixing those lines first. Western Washington has many hard-to-reach, remote areas.”
Pennsylvania’s Power Grid is Down due to Heavy Snowfall
Heavy snow downed power lines today in Pennsylvania, affecting 60,000 people.
Northeastern Pennsylvania had around 63,000 outages as of 3.30 pm, according to PPL Outage Map.
Mark Margavage shared footage of trees bent or broken by the snow. Power lines were seen dangling from many trees.
Traffic Snarls During Snowstorm
Pennsylvania traffic is snarled by a heavy snowstorm captured by drone footage.
Heavy snowfall in many parts of the state stranded multiple trucks and cars.

Almost a foot of snow fell overnight in northeast Pennsylvania and central New York, causing a winter storm warning.
Binghamton, N.Y., warned heavy snowfall could bring down trees and wires.
Mountain regions can expect up to 16 inches of snow, forecasters warned.
