California snow map shows 15-inch snowfall in some areas
Winter storms are battering Northern California, dumping up to 15 inches of snow in some counties.
Plumas and Lassen counties were issued a winter weather advisory by the National Weather Service (NWS) in the early morning hours of Thursday.
Associated with the atmospheric river affecting the Pacific Northwest, snow started falling in the Sacramento region on Wednesday.
Newsweek reported that 6 inches of snow had fallen by Thursday morning in parts of the Sacramento forecast region, with up to 15 inches more expected by Friday.
Winter weather advisory: “Snow expected above 5500 feet through Friday, with locally higher amounts around 12 to 15 inches over the peaks.”. “Thirty-five mph winds expected over the peaks.”.

Rain also fell in low-elevation areas during the same storm, Hand said.
Advisory issues were issued for the west slope and western Plumas and Lassen counties in the northern Sierra Nevada. The ban is scheduled to remain in effect until 10 p.m. on Friday local time.
Snow amounts of up to 10 inches are possible across Sierra Nevada mountain passes. He warned that Thursday evening’s and Friday’s morning commutes could be affected by the snowfall.
“Travel conditions may be hazardous today through Friday, due to slick roads, snow coverage, chain controls, and travel delays. Strong winds might bring down tree branches,” it said.
In the evening of Thursday, the snow levels will drop to 4,500 feet. Overnight and early Friday, the snow will be the heaviest.
Snow was also forecast from the NWS offices in San Diego and Hanford, but amounts weren’t expected to exceed 15 inches.
Higher elevations in the Hanford forecast region would receive an additional 11 inches of snow. In San Diego, higher elevations could see up to 4 inches of snow.
Forecasters predicted a good chance of snow showers on Friday. Light snow may fall on Saturday.”
On Thursday evening, forecasts of winter storms related to the atmospheric river were still in effect in Oregon and Washington. Several areas were expected to remain affected through the weekend.
NWS in Seattle says snow could briefly turn to rain Saturday night across Stevens and Snoqualmie Passes before returning to snow Sunday evening. The possibility of slushy conditions is present when it rains.”
Further east in Montana, winter weather advisories were issued as a result of the storm. Earlier this weekend, a similar storm hit the same area, leading to the atmospheric river.
