Atlantic Canada is hit by a Flurry of Impacts From a Messy Storm

Tens of thousands of New Brunswickers have been affected by heavy overnight snow in Atlantic Canada due to a messy weather system

Atlantic Canada has continued to experience unsettled weather this week, maintaining a gloomy and stubborn pattern.

Lake Major’s water levels are lower than normal due to little precipitation on the East Coast this fall.

An intensifying Colorado low developed late Thursday and tracked into Atlantic Canada.

Snow and/or wind have accumulated in some areas overnight, so plan on some potential travel problems and plan to leave extra time if you’re headed somewhere on Friday.

Snowfall warnings were issued for most of New Brunswick overnight Thursday, covering much of the province with heavy, wet snow.

It is reported that more than 30,000 customers were without power on Friday morning, and many schools closed.

Throughout the day, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island will see snow, though it will subside by Friday morning.

Western and central Newfoundlanders can expect snowfall early Friday as the system passes through the region.

It’s expected that when the system leaves the region by late Friday, the snow will transition into rain.

Rain will be expected Friday on Newfoundland’s Burin and Avalon Peninsulas. Five to 15 millimeters of rain could fall in St.

John’s this month, putting the city even closer to record rainfall for November. Friday will continue to be a windy day throughout Atlantic Canada.

The Les Suêtes wind warning remains in effect for Friday morning for the western coast of Cape Breton.

Wreck house wind warnings remain in effect for the southwest coast of Newfoundland as gusts could exceed 100 km/h on Friday.

Mostly gusty winds will be encountered along Newfoundland’s southern coast, where winds will reach 80-100 km/h along the south Avalon Peninsula to Port aux Basques.

As the system departs the area, 70-90 km/h gusts should taper off. Colder weather is expected across the region during early December.
